December 3

Worked with Dan and Jon on writing a more elaborate Sports Show script to be better prepared for the Sports Show which we have planned for December 5th. This took more time than usual and we hope that December 5th will run smoothly without as many issues as we have had in previous shows.

Jonathan, Daniel and I worked on the Sports Show this past week. We wrote a script and developed a new format for the show; fewer topics, addition of a mediator and additional one shots. This took a long time to set up, finish a script and shoot. After this, I went to edit the show and ran into issues of dropped frames. However, We are working on further editing the project in the upcoming weeks.

In addition, I did a shoot at agape food bank for online media. I also edited, did a voiceover for the final project and exported it onto youtube for my class.

I helped out the News Show last week for the duration of the show. In addition, I helped show Mason how to edit the highlights he gathered from the mens soccer game. I logged and transfered the clips from the camera Dr. Bradford let us borrow, and showed him how to properly edit clips (input/output, cutaways, highlights, length of clips, etc...) I was only able to help out for an hour; however, Rob was able to help out the rest of the way and we prepared RDR's for both sets of highlights.

Jon and I worked on a script for our first Mocs Take episode. Later in the day we finished part of the script and set up for shooting the show. While doing the show we ran into a few difficulties with part of the script and also had issues with lighting which we fixed. After reviewing the show, we realized we definitely need to re-format and reanalyze how we operate the show. In addition, we need more practicum students to pitch in and help make the show successful.

The next day, I helped out with filming sorority bid day. We ran into problems with the camera when we first set up and Dr. Bradford was able to fix the issues which we ran into. Also, we took shots of girls recieving their bids and a multitude of different shots in the Greek Quad. FInally, we got the girls running down the hill and the emotional hugs and pictures after they had been united with their new sorority. Later in the day, Rob and I edited for a :25-:35 VO. We ran into issues with the first computer right away and the second computer had some issues with logging and capturing. Eventually, we were able to log and capture everything and write a RDR to accompany the shoot.

Filmed the girls soccer game against Weber International. The game went to 2OT's and ended in a 0-0 tie. It was very difficult to find highlights in this game; however, I was able to pull out about :21 worth of highlights for Tori to use.

Earlier in the week I worked on a VO for org sync. I used still shots of different interfaces of the website and was able to create another :20 VO.

Finally, I edited the girls soccer game later on in the evening into a :20 clip for Tori to use. I also watched Tony as he edited his cross country clip

I shot the soccer game Saturday with Rob. Unfortunately a rain delay led to a cancellation of the game. We returned the next day and shot the game. I could only stay for some of the game, however, we collected additional necessary highlights.
We edited these highlights for Tori and I wrote two readers for mens and women's soccer.
I also wrote an additional reader that previewed convocation.

Went to the soccer game with both Robert and Dan Comer. We all took turns filming up in the tower for the soccer game. I went over the procedures for cutaways, how to capture celebrations/goal scorers and proper zooms. We arrived 30 minutes before game time and left a little after the game had ended.
Also, I wrote a reader for the show today about ACE.

April 19th 500 Word Summary

500-Word Summary
This semester was more advanced than the previous semester. I worked more closely with a lot of different equipment and also, with the Intro to Broadcast Class, focused on shooting a lot of sports games and editing them into packages.
When going to the sports games I learned a lot of different things from both Tony and Tori. With Tony, I primarily shot the basketball games. Last semester I focused more on just following the basketball. This semester, there was more of an emphasis on finding cutaways, focusing on either offense/defense and not just both, and also getting different shots. This was also the same for the baseball games with Tori. While at the beginning of the semester Tony would help me edit the basketball games, Tori would allow me to edit the baseball games and also write a reader for her voiceover. This helped me work consistently with FinalCut Pro and I now know the finer aspects of the program and how to edit sports games in the future. Not only do I now know how to just log and capture, but also how to edit certain clips into the production. I worked on a Spanish Project for my class this semester and had tremendous success thanks to the FinalCut Pro Program. I was able to input certain clips by using input and output, insert audio from the internet by converting mp3 audio files to WAV files for the program and ensure that the sound levels were correct.
In addition to shooting and editing, I also helped write readers for Austin’s News Show. In the Intro to Broadcast Writing Class, it was important to know how to write in broadcast style. I took on the challenge of writing readers because they require a person to write in broadcast style and helped me improve my overall writing ability. In addition to writing for the News Show, I would also help out with the News Show in any way possible. Whether it would be running the soundboard, teleprompter or camera, I always tried to take an active role in helping out the production of the show.
Much like last semester, Tony, Robert and I continued doing the Sports podcast. We decided to change up the format due to time constraints and to ensure we didn’t ramble on about a given topic. This new format proved useful and the show ran very successfully. While last semester Tony had set the show up for us, this semester required Robert and myslef to cue up the entire show. Connecting XLR’s, checking the soundboard, inserting the tape, recording, getting a sample script together, etc...
John, Frank and myself are currently working on our final project for our class and hope to make the Ultimate Frisbee intramural game into the National Championship game after editing our clips and inserting commercials. This project should demonstrate all that I have learned this year at school from how to properly shoot to how to edit correctly. I am excited to finish the project and am also excited to return in the fall to continue to work on shooting and editing sports games.

It was very different with the new set up and equipment but the set p f the show was successful.

Rob and myself went to the studio and edited the womens lacrosse game to include in the Sports show for Tori. We had to create a 20-30 second reader for Tori to VO and this task was difficult because we had a variety of lengthy cutaways and goals that were hard to crisp. Ultimately we successfully made a 23 second Reader for Tori to use for the show.

Filmed for about 2 hours for the Acting for the Camera Theater class. Worked in Tutu's and helped them film a scene from the movie 50/50. Today I also filmed the girls lacrosse game and will be providing the film fo a voiceover for Tori in addition to the video being used for my project. ROb, Steve and I ran into problems with audio on the camera and while attempting to interview a girls lacrosse player, we were not able to pick up any audio with the clip mic and noticed that the wire may be broken and may need to be replaced. I also wrote a reader and voiceover for Tori to use for the show.

February 22

I worked on editing the girls lacrosse game highlights. I ran into problems while trying to log and capture the film with Robert. We were able to fix the problem after a number of trial and error and we still are not sure why we had difficulties with the process. After finishing the one minute video for editing I also had to do a 20 second highlight video for Tori on the same shoot. Another problem occurred with the 20 second video because there was a problem with the audio as I was unable to adjust the frequency correctly. I unfortunately had to restart the project and eventually got the situation corrected. Finally, I was not on the comm server so I spent a lot of time figuring out a way to put the file in Dr. Bradford's dropbox... However, I had no success. I went back and worked for about 45 minutes into thinking of ways to possibly "beat the system." The next day I did figure out how to put the video in the dropbox after a lot of editing and problem solving.

January 19th- Worked on the Sports Talk with Tony. We changed the format of how the Sports Talk was run, using more of a more efficient way of staying on topic without dragging out the topic. Robert and I set up the XLR's, the audio, and the microphones for the show. The new system was more efficient and modeled a Pardon The Interruption (PTI) format.

January 17th-

I helped shoot the men's basketball game with Tony, Katie and Robert. We learned shooting from different angles, what is important to record and what is not important and finally, how to cover all facets of the game (not only the players, but coaches, fans, and cheerleaders/mocsie are important for the highlight video).
